Transition years of historical data in months

Application

Standing up a OSIsoft PI system to collect data while also transitioning several years of historical data.

Customer

North American Specialty Chemical producer that acquired a single, stand-alone unit within a site owned and operated by another producer.

Challenge

Customer acquired the unit and needed to establish system independence across software platforms in a short period of time to allow them to independently operate the stand-alone unit. Novaspect & Emerson supported the transition to independent DeltaV and PI systems. The DeltaV system was installed as a local application while the PI system needed to connect securely across the local network and the corporate network.
Solution

Solution

Customer came to Novaspect because of our successful history supporting their PI and DeltaV systems and our experience and expertise with enterprise software applications and cybersecurity. For DeltaV we provided secure, remote access to the new stand-alone system. Conversely, the PI system required software installed at both the local site and at corporate location.  An Inmation data bus solution was deployed, allowing for secure connectivity across networks without the need for both traditional OPC and third party tunneling solutions.

For DeltaV we provided secure, remote access to the new stand-alone system.

Outcome

In less than two months, we established remote access to the new DeltaV system, set-up a new PI system that effectively spans both the newly acquired unit and the corporate network, and moved several years of data from the legacy IP.21 historian to the new PI historian.
